Lithium Batteries

Lithium batteries have become such a common, everyday item that they have been taken for granted by consumers, with little thought given to the precautions that need to be taken to ensure lithium batteries do not pose a hazard in air transport. This issue can present itself either in passenger baggage but even more so in air cargo.

The carriage of damaged, defective or recalled lithium batteries or devices is prohibited on-board Malta MedAir aircraft.

Lithium batteries are defined as dangerous goods by the United Nations, which specifies the very stringent manufacturing and testing requirements the batteries must meet. Specific requirements to ensure that they can be carried safely by air in both cargo and baggage are determined by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) and these are then reflected in IATA’s Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Normal use of your baggage may result in scratches, marks, small dents, zips, stains and other signs of wear and tear on your baggage. We do not accept liability for this. Malta  MedAir shall accept no liability for damage to items protruding from baggage such as  handles, wheels, labels and straps. All claims are subject to proof of damage.

Malta MedAir’s liability for delay, loss of or damage to baggage may be limited by interna-tional conventions unless a higher value is declared in advance and additional charges are paid. Passengers are advised to obtain private travel insurance.

In case of delayed baggage, please advise our ground handler’s baggage services desk which is usually situated in the Baggage Reclaim area of an Arrivals Lounge.
